A routine cleaning, or “healthy mouth cleaning”, is typically done for people who already have healthy teeth and gums and have not gone longer than six months in between cleaning appointments.

This treatment is given every six months and is preventative care for those who maintain a healthy mouth that is without any gum disease. At each visit, our dental hygienist will make sure that your teeth are as clean as possible while at the same time providing early screening for potential tooth decay and gum disease.

During a routine cleaning, harmful bacteria are removed from your teeth above and below the gum line. Hardened bacterial buildup, or tartar, can form even with good regular brushing and flossing. A professional cleaning will ensure that tartar is removed even from places you may not be able to reach with your toothbrush. At the routine cleaning your hygienist will also polish your teeth, helping to keep your smile as white and healthy as possible.

The cleaning may also include the taking of dental x-rays, which can help to detect decay and gum disease as well as helping your dental team detect any other problems. With regular professional dental cleanings, your risk of having a more severe dental problem in the future decreases significantly. We help you stay on top of your oral health with these virtually painless visits, so that you don’t suffer with dental problems down the road.
